We begin our journey in Southern Germany's majestic Bavarian Alps. Our days are filled with awe-inspiring scenery, quintessential Bavarian villages, fairytale castles and the mysteries and legends of 19th century royalty. We visit the Reformaion city of Augsburg to learn more about Martin Luther, and the popular pilgrimage site offering amazing views from Holy Mountain overlooking the shimmering blue waters of Lake Ammersee.

Visit the 17th-century Gothis church with its onion-domed tower. Stroll the quaint alpine village of Oberammergau with its famous painted houses, wood-carving studios and attend the world famous Passion Play, performed once every 10-years. Our journey continues with a luxurious small ship, 7-night river cruise from Nuremberg, Germany aboard the luxurious AMAWaterways AMA Prima river cruise ship sailing to Luxembourg including some of the most beautiful rivers in Europe- the Rhine, Main, and Moselle. DAY 1     Depart U.S.A to Germany

DAY 2    Arrive Munich, Germany (D)

Upon arrival at Munich Airport the group will be met by our professional tour manager who will escort us to our private motor coach. We begin our journey with a brief drive to Munich and a panoramic tour of this majestic city. Enjoy a stroll through the Marienplatz and view the famous glockenspiel before our welcome to Germany dinner. Overnight Munich

DAY 3     Bavarian Castle, Holy Mountain Monastery and Brewery (B)

Visit the most popular castle in Europe and the inspiration behind Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Castle, and Andechs Klostrbrauerei a popular pilgrimage site offering amazing views from Holy Mountain overlooking the shimmering blue waters of Lake Ammersee. Overnight Bavarian Alps

DAY 4     42nd Passion Play Oberammergau, Germany (B, D)

We begin our day with a drive through the breath-taking scenery of the majestic Bavarian Alps to the quaint alpine village of Oberammergau with its famous painted houses, wood carving studios and home to the theater that hosts the famous Passion Play, performed once every 10-years.  We’ll have time to peruse the village shops and enjoy a walking tour as we mingle with the villagers and learn about the hard work and dedication of the local volunteers who bring the Passion Play alive for our enjoyment and a lifetime of memories.   This afternoon we make our way to the world famous Passion Play Theatre to attend the 42nd Oberammergau Passion Play. The play is five hours and performed in two acts, from 2:30pm – 5:30pm, with an intermission break including dinner and continues from 8:00pm- 10:00pm.  Prepare to be amazed as the stage comes alive…with a spectacular set, awe-inspiring performances, and live animals and birds under the majestic sky of the breathtaking Bavarian Alps!  Overnight Bavarian Alps

DAY 5     Augsburg (B)

Today we visit the Reformation city of Augsburg including St. Anne’s Church where Luther stayed in 1518, and the Fuggerei, the oldest social settlement in existence in the world! View the bunkers built in 1943 that protected the residents during the war. Overnight Bavarian Alps

DAY 6     Embarkation – Nuremberg (B, D)

This morning after breakfast we drive north to board the ship in Nuremberg for your Europe’s Rivers & Castles cruise along the Mosel, Rhine and Main Rivers.  Overnight ship

DAY 7     Bamberg (B,L,D)

Bamberg has been referred to as “Franconian Rome” as, like Rome, it was built on seven hills—but in Bamberg, a church graces each one. Bamberg’s medieval and Baroque architecture has withstood the test of time and, as such, became a UNESCO World Heritage Site.Join a guided walking tour of this medieval gem where you’ll see its cathedral, Old Town Hall and elegant old mansions, and afterwards, indulge in the town’s famous smoked beer, Rauchbier. Alternatively, enjoy a bike tour through Bamberg and follow your knowledgeable guide along the river to the enchanting winemaking town of Eltmann.  Overnight ship

DAY 8     Wurzburg (B,L,D)

Go on a full-day excursion to Rothenburg, Germany’s best-preserved walled town located on the Romantic Road. For those not going to Rothenburg, enjoy a city tour of Würzburg, a bursting with Baroque splendor. Or visit Würzburg’s Baroque Residenz Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that features an opulent interior, including a grand fresco by Tiepolo. As an alternative to the walking tour and the palace visit, the more active guest may choose to venture high above the town for a hike to Marienberg Fortress, which dominates the city.  Overnight ship

DAY 9     Wertheim (B,L,D)

Wertheim’s old town center still features half-timbered houses and the Gothic architecture of the Stiftskirche, its oldest Protestant church. You may either join a guided walking tour through the historic city center or learn the art of pretzel making with a visit to a local bakery. For those seeking a more active adventure, take a scenic bike ride through the Main River Valley or hike high above the town for a visit to the castle, one of the most picturesque ruins in Germany.  Overnight ship

DAY 10   Rudesheim, Rhine Gorge, Lahnstein (B,L,D)

Arrive in Rüdesheim, where you can visit Siegfried’s Mechanical Musical Instrument Museum, or take a ride over the vineyards of Rüdesheim in a gondola to the Niederwald Monument, and then afterwards be treated to a wine tasting. You may also hike through a Rüdesheim vineyard. Another choice today is to take a guided bike tour along the Rhine Valley, riding between the Rheingau hills and the Rhine River. Later in the day, set sail towards Lahnstein through the Rhine River Gorge, famous for its beautiful and imposing castles. Cap the day off with a visit to Lahneck Castle.  Overnight ship

DAY 11   Cochem- Zell (B,L,D)

Wake up in fairytale Cochem and visit the Reichsburg Castle followed by a walking tour. As an alternative, visit one of Europe’s oldest working mustard mills where you will sample Cochem’s famous mustard. You may also opt to take a guided bike tour along the captivating Moselle River or a hike to Reichsburg Castle. Later, cruise to Zell, famous for its Riesling and the well-known arched black cat icon, often seen on the labels of local German wines. Experience the hospitality of the citizens of Zell, including the local Wine Queen and Mayor, at an exclusive wine festival where you’ll sample local wines, sausages and more.  Overnight ship

DAY 12   Trier (B,L,D)

Enjoy a scenic cruise along the Moselle to Trier, Germany’s oldest city, renowned for its rich ancient Roman past, and referred to as the “Rome of the North” with impressive Roman relics and nine UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Join a guided tour of the city, including the old Roman amphitheater, Roman Baths and Basilica of Constantine. Or, go in search of the secrets of the Porta Nigra Gate, dating back to 180 A.D., on a tour that takes you back to a time when Rome ruled the world from the Emperor’s seat in Trier. You also have the choice of a bike tour.  Overnight ship

DAY 13   Luxembourg- Disembarkation (B)

Bid au revoir to Luxembourg as you prepare for your journey home. Our group will transfer to the Luxembourg airport for our return flight.
